Awesome Edward the 1st Silver Penny

Check what my parents got me as a early Christmas and partying gift before moving to Korea. Supposedly dates from 1279-1307 and was minted in Canterbury. I can't believe some thing so old cost only 22 pounds. I'm not one for numismatic coins. I just prefer cold hard bullion but this thing is beautiful.

Congratulations.

Yours looks rather good in comparison with the only two Cantuarian-minted ones on here:

I was given some Roman coins as a gift a few years back. Evey time I look at them I wonder at the history at which the coins were present.

A *silver* penny? I'll bet at the time of minting, a peasant would have to work for close to a week to earn that.

And after all that work the poor bugger dropped it in a field for someone to find 700 years later. :bawling:

Correction 11 pounds. But just to think a penny was actually once silver and soon will be steel.

I'll bet the serfs never came in contact with money (only guildmembers and lords), if that's what you mean (by peasant). I guess that makes us modern guildmembers.
